I thought I had a cold and a cough. I was working on Wednesday and on Thursday I was admitted to the North Carolina Cancer Hospital in Chapel Hill. The shock was real - and as I found out - very common for this type of cancer, Acute Myeloid Leukemia. The news - terminal within 3 months if not treated - BUT one of the FEW cancers that is completely curable with a bone marrow transplant. I will NEED a bone marrow transplant - and so do thousands of others who have shared or will share this unexpected and devastating news.
I underwent 10 days of extensive 24 hour a day chemotherapy. I was discharged on Monday, March 11, 2019 after being in the hospital for 40 days.
Next step - a bone marrow biopsy to test if I have achieved Remission. Then on to the Bone Marrow Transplant.
Please consider being a part of a bone marrow marrow drive. Your match could be the "Priceless" gift of life.
