Welcome to Doug's CaringBridge site. We've created it to keep friends and family updated on Doug's health as he battles severe pancreatitis and related complications.  Doug returned home after work on May 25 with some mild stomach aches that quickly turned into severe sharp abdominal pains in less than an hour.  Instead of driving to Canada for a 10 day fishing trip that day with his father-in-law, he ended up in the ER and was admitted to OSF that evening.   It was determined that a gall stone caused severe pancreatitis.   He was in the hospital for nearly 7.5 weeks battling pancreatitis and the complications that come with this complex illness.  Doug was discharged on July 16, 2016 and has been receiving medical care at home since then.

We have learned that Doug's recovery will be slow and long ... lasting weeks or months, not days.   Thank you to our family and friends for the support, prayers and words of encouragement.
