Dearest Friends and  Family - Welcome to Doug's CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place.   For those who do not know the journey we've been on this week, its a doozy!  We were scheduled for a  week of golf sun and sand in the Dominican Republic with friends and family.  The day before our flight, Doug fell and hit his head at home, and spent a few hours in the ER in Franklin TN.  After CTs and blood work he was cleared for travel and we went back to packing.  While we discussed postponing or canceling, we ended up keeping to the plan.  I know he did that for me, BTW.  He knew how hard I had been working and looking forward to the beach.

We flew to the DR on Monday and arrived at the Villa.  As we were finishing lunch, Doug started slurring his words.  Endless thanks to the family team that took over giving him aspirin, googling what to do for a stroke and calling 911.   Frankly I didn't even have aspirin in my bag, and I'm not sure I would've had my wits to think of that in the moment.  So that's just one of the many blessings and God's hand in this process.

At the ER in the Dominican, they did everything right to stabilize him and have treated him well.  He is being kept in ICU for constant monitoring as they bring down his BP.   Its a nice facility and my ANGEL Alejandro, the property manager for the Villa, has been transporting me back and forth, as well as being full time interpreter once we are there.  There is a language barrier with the hospital staff, and they have limited visitation in the ICU.  But they are keeping him sedated on the meds to bring down BP, so  I know he is resting and sleeping most of the time.  When he is awake he is speaking to me, recognizing family on facetime and these are all good signs.

Prayers continue to be answered!  First of all, we have never bought medical travel insurance on any trip before, but due to covid we did buy a plan.  International SOS has been amazing support for me, thru this whole process and as of a few minutes ago, we've been cleared to med evacuate on air ambulance directly to Vanderbilt departing at 1 pm cst today!  Itinerary expects us to be at Vandy by 8 pm tonight, admitting thru the ER to get complete assessment.  Two days ago we thought we might have to go to Miami and weren't sure that I could even fly with him. So prayer warriors have made a way to get me with him, all the way home!  Bless all of you!  I'm signing off to head to the hospital within the hour,

Thank you for the continuous outpouring of love, prayers and support.  I never once felt alone or scared in this process and I know that Doug's survival and improvement has been due to your faithfulness and intercession.  We love you all!
