Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting. Every new day is a gift. Sometimes that is almost said as a cliche. It will no longer be said as a cliche in our family. And with each new day, all can change in a matter of moments. Monday evening, while playing golf with our oldest Granddaughter, Grace, Doug injured his back and because of the amount of swelling, we headed to the ER. Blood was drawn and a CT Scan was taken and the Dr immediately came back quite concerned about blood count numbers. After a brief stay at Shawnee Mission Medical Center, Doug had his 2nd ambulance ride in a span of 12 hours and was taken to KU Med Center Oncology Unit. There he was met at the door of his room by a medical team very anxious to "welcome" him to his new home away from home. After two days of taking in information like "drinking water from a full-on fire hose" we have received a diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Today is Day 1 of 28 days of Chemotherapy. Even in this, we have so very much to be thankful for. First and foremost, we know we are in God's Sovereign and Almighty Hands. We live within 25 minutes of one of the top hospitals for diagnosis and treating this cancer. Our daughters, Lindsay and Allison and their husbands and children are all here and our church family support is phenomenal. So the fight begins. What can you do? Pray for remission in the short term and Pray for complete healing and restoration in the long term, for strength for the fight and protection against anything that would stand in the way of those very things. Thank you for journeying with us. Love, Doug and Jan Hansen
