ON LABOR DAY 2016, I found myself in the ER at North Memorial Hospital. I had severe shortness of breath. This led to a 6 day in-patient stay. I was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer. Cancer cells were found located in the fluid surrounding my lungs. With this type of cancer, the survival rate to 5 years from the diagnosis is less than 10%. There is no cure at this time, but it's possible to slow the growth and prolong life a little.

We are consulting with the oncology team at the Humphrey Cancer Center in Robbinsdale, MN. Treatment will most likely be chemo therapy. If I can, I will participate in experimental techniques as well.

Since our new normal is uncertainty, we intend to enjoy each day, laugh often, and look for what we can appreciate. We will constantly bring our attention back to what is good in our lives,  and to live in the present moment.
