Welcome to our CaringBridge website.  I am using it to keep family and friends updated in one place.  In mid-October I discovered a lump in my right breast.  After panic and testing it was determined that there are actually 2 lumps there: the one I discovered which is a 2.5 cm triple negative invasive ductile malignant tumor (a fast growing tumor with a 30% chance of reoccurrence after treatment and removal), and secondly, a slow growing 1.5 cm mass with a different morphology from the larger tumor and with hormone receptors (which can be treated with immunotherapy).  A lymph node was also tested in the biopsy which was negative for cancer.   Fortunately, there is an MD Anderson Breast Cancer Clinic in Greeley and after consultation with an oncologist, surgeon and radiation oncologist, it was agreed to proceed with the following treatment: 24 weeks of chemotherapy, concurrent immunotherapy for one year, a double mastectomy (my decision over lumpectomy) following chemo, and possibly radiation at the end if needed.  Chemo treatments will start on Wednesday, January 18 and I am remaining positive that side effects will be minimal since I am in good physical condition from maintaining a dedicated routine of lap swimming and pickleball (an obsession) since my return to Colorado from Alaska in 2018.   I am thankful to have the close support of my children, Molly and Daniel, who live nearby in Greeley and Denver and many friends and neighbors I have met since I moved back to Colorado.  I appreciate all of your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.
