Dad has Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis, a lung disease that runs in our family and prevents alveolar tissue from exchanging oxygen due to progressing scar tissue. https://www.pulmonaryfibrosis.org/understanding-pff/about-pulmonary-fibrosis/what-is-pulmonary-fibrosis
After many years of taking an antifibrotic drug to slow disease progression, he now is at a point where oxygen support is required all the time for him. He is fortunate to be eligible for lung transplant, and is receiving extraordinary care through the Richard Devos Heart and Lung Transplant Clinic at Spectrum Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan. https://grbj.com/news/health-care/spectrum-healths-organ-transplant-survival-rated-best-nationwide/ This page will serve to update family and friends as Dad goes through the transplant surgery and recovery process.
