On April 22nd, Don went in for what we thought was going to be a fairly routine cardiac cath and possible stenting procedure.
But you see, what had happened was...
Dr. Fullin *insert applause for amazing, caring docs* discovered that Don had five... yes five... arteries at least 80% blocked, including all three major arteries. And yep, that includes the left anterior descending artery (more commonly known as the widow maker). None of these could be stented due to extensive calcification. To put the rotten egg on top of the garbage sundae, his aortic valve also had extensive build-up and calcification and needs to be replaced.
After discussing with his docs, meeting with his incredible pastor and talking with family members, he decided that there was still life to be lived, weddings of beloved grandchildren to attend, and loves to be loved.
He'll head back to the hospital on Tuesday, April 27th for a CABG/open heart surgery. The doc will bypass three of the blocked arteries and replace the valve.
Major surgery with a major recovery. But he'll have the support of his kids, his grandkids, his friends, and his church. God has his child firmly nestled in his hands.
Don's philosophy since Yvonne has passed has been that he's on the right side of the grass and we know he's looking forward to feeling the grass on his feet and getting there without being winded or worrying about passing out. ❤️❤️🦋
