Welcome to Don’s Site. . This is Sara (the youngest daughter) I will do my best to keep information up to date as soon as we have it available.  We appreciate in advance the love, prayers and support for Dad. So here’s the story.... Dad had his usual colonoscopy on Monday. He has had MANY in the past due to his remarkable ability to make pre-cancerous polyps.... he’s been really good at it! Well Monday instead of his usual polyps they discovered a mass in the hepatic flexure portion of his colon. They immediately identified it as a colon cancer. Needless to say Dad was very surprised by this news as he has been well and has had no symptoms. The doctors sent him immediately from his colonoscopy to CT scan and THANKFULLY... his chest, abdomen and pelvis are otherwise clear of any other tumors or signs of any other cancers. Praise the Lord!!  Today Dad, Mom, Lisa and I met with Dr. Nathaniel Reuter and his nurse Erin (Both WONDERFUL people) at Centra Care and made a plan of attack. SO!! First, Dad will have an ultrasound of his liver on Monday to double check a cyst he’s had for years-just to be sure that’s still nothing. Next will be surgery on Thursday December 7th  to remove most of the ascending colon including the mass and a bit of his transverse colon.  They will connect his small intestine to the remaining colon.  If all goes as planned, he should not have to have a colostomy bag which Dad is VERY HAPPY about.  He will need to stay in the hospital a couple days to ensure everything is working and he can eat and drink and pain is under control.  After surgery he will need to meet with an Oncologist to determine next steps based on the pathology reports from surgery.  I will update everyone as more information is available and hopefully this will be a short and sweet journey. We learned very quickly with Mom’s illness the power of prayer and positivity. We have a strong faith and amazing friends and family! Dad’s going to beat this just like Mom kicked Lymphoma’s butt! Thank you so much for your support!  God is Good. 💙
