On April 28, 2017 Don went in for a routine colonoscopy. At that time the doctors identified a large mass. On May 1 Don was told the mass was cancerous. At a follow up appointment on May 5, 2017 the surgeon informed Don the cancer had spread and wanted to conduct more tests to determine how far it had spread. A follow up MRI of the liver was conducted on May 7. On the 8th of May, Don was relieved to find out no cancer was found in the liver. Don's official diagnosis is Stage 3 rectal adenocarcinoma. His treatment plan begins on May 12 by having a port put in and his first dose of chemotherapy. This will be followed by 7 more weeks of chemo and subsequently 5-6 weeks of radiation. During the radiation he will also take chemo in pill form. At conclusion of this round of chemo and radiation he will have 8-10 weeks off to prepare for surgery. After surgery he will have 4-6 weeks off and another round of chemo.
We believe Don's positive outlook and determination along with your thoughts and prayers- he will beat this cancer!
