On Super Bowl Sunday, Don fell and hit his head resulting in a facial fracture, stitches and broken ribs. After two CAT scans, they found a large mass in his chest. A number of biopsies, PET scans and blood work determined that he has a rare form of cancer, Mesothelioma, stage 4. This is typically caused by exposure to asbestos.

He began chemotherapy, which he will do every three weeks for 3-4 cycles. After his first chemo which lasted 11 hours, he came home, generally feeling OK and continued hydration therapy for two days. However, he began to feel weakness on his left side and had another fall. It turns out he had some residual bleeding in his head from the first fall on Super Bowl Sunday. They did surgery to drain the blood and he is now heading to rehab to build up strength and prepare him for the next round of chemo.
