Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting. I, (Don,) will be going for open heart surgery at the University of Virginia Medical Center, (where I was a chaplain for 20 years,) on Friday, October 14. The condition that requires this is "aortic stenosis"--a severe constriction of the aorta that develops over time and is apparently related to a common congenital "bicuspid" valve defeat of the aorta. This means that I have two flaps in the valve rather than the normal 3. Over time it can become more and more inefficient, constricted and "calcified". The tip off for surgery,(they have been watching this for several years,) finally came this summer, when my walking/jogging exercise, (4 miles on the Monticello trail) began to fall off to nothing. The time had come, and so here we are. We have a great surgeon, a good medical team, and a place, (U. Va. Hospital,) that I know and love. I am blessed with the support and prayers of family and friends. We'll try and keep you updated about progress in this journey. With Love and Blessings, Don Moore, North Garden, Virginia
