Dominic Maffia

How did we get here? Dominic was diagnosed with Stage 3 kidney disease in 2015. He had an autoimmune disorder called IGA Nephropathy. It basically attacks the kidneys. It caused high blood pressure and was manageable with medication and diet change. We knew then that this treatment was temporary, and that, at some point, Dominic would likely get worse and potentially go into kidney failure.  That time came in April 2017. Dominic went into full kidney failure and was hospitalized. He had a procedure to input a dialysis port and began dialysis three days a week, starting on his 25th birthday. His life, and ours, was changed forever that weekend in April. Since then he has been hospitalized with an infection, had several more procedures to remove the old port and add two new ones, and has been placed on the national kidney transplant list. Our search for a kidney started with his father, Vinny, then lead to his mother, Jennifer. Fortunately for us, Mom is a match!! The transplant is set for October 16th. We will keep you all posted on the surgery and his recovery as he transitions from dialysis patient to transplant recipient. Thank you all for your continued prayers and support!!
