Dirk went into the Phoenix VA hospital on Friday, June 23, with severe head pain. We thought he was having another stroke. The VA in Phoenix does not have a neurological/stroke unit so they sent him to Saint a Joseph's hospital on Thomas Ave & 3rd Ave in downtown Phoenix.
They discovered 2 lesions in his brain. A biopsy done on Thursday June 29 revealed a brain tumor called Glioblastoma (Grade 4) which is a very aggressive form of brain cancer. It appears there will need to be a second procedure within the next 10-14 days. After that, Dirk will need chemo and radiation treatments every day for 6 weeks. Once that process is over, he will need chemo treatments for 1 week each month for a year. This regime will not cause hair loss and nausea. The prognosis says this will not cure this type of cancer...if it is successful, it will keep it at bay.
We who love Dirk pray for a miracle. Thank you dear friends and family for your love, support and prayers
