As most of you have heard, Diana was found to have breast cancer last week. So far, Diana and I have met with four oncologists (two who specialize in cancer surgeries and two who specialize in breast cancer). After many diagnostic tests, the doctors now have more definitively concluded that Diana’s breast cancer is officially Stage 3. This means that it has spread, but only to her lymph nodes on her left side and not other parts of her body. We were relieved that the bone scan, liver MRI, and chest/lung CT all came back with no cancer outside the nodes. And that means that this cancer is treatable with chemotherapy, surgeries, and radiation. Diana had her chemo-port surgery a few days ago and already has skinned up and down Tiehack in a snowstorm this morning.
The outpouring of love, kind words, and prayers has been overwhelming! We feel like George Bailey in the last scene from “It’s a Wonderful Life” when they toasted George saying, “Here’s to George, the richest man in Bedford Falls!” We feel rich with the love and support you have all shown us. The gratitude I personally feel is beyond words for me. I never knew just how loved we are – whether it be from within this wonderful community or from all over the country from FL to NY to CA. Thank you to each and every one of you.
While it has been a week filled with tears and fear, we are now coming out of the darkness to fight, be brave, and even smile. Ahead of us, we have a year of chemotherapy followed by surgery and radiation. But, we now know this cancer can be beat. And we will beat it! Diana and I appreciate the love and support of our friends and loved ones. Please understand if you reach out to Diana and she isn’t able to respond.
