Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting. On Monday, January 27, 2020, around 2:30 pm, DeVona experienced an unconscious episode for an unknown reason while driving between two small town work locations (Peabody and Whitewater). She regained consciousness to see her vehicle leaving the left side of the road. The next time she woke up she found herself sitting in her vehicle pushed up against the steering wheel with the airbag deflated and sitting in water up to her waist with her right arm hanging. She knew there was nothing she could do to alter her situation, so she prayed, "Lord, help me." and passed out. When she woke up, she was standing outside the vehicle in the creek water. She managed to climb up the embankment to sit on the side of the road. A passer by saw her and an ambulance was despatched around 3:30 pm. She was brought to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita around 5:00. Craig was notified around 6:00 pm that she had been in an accident and was at the Trauma center. Very thankfully she is alive, and very obviously and miraculously through God's protection. Her body is very broken. She has to wear a back brace whenever she is up. Right elbow rebuilt and repaired with plates and screws. Her open fractured lower right humerus reset and stitched. Upper right humerus break is well aligned and will be left to heal with just a sling. 9 flail fractured ribs, cracked sternum. T5 vertebrae fracture. Initial brain bleeds did not show on 2nd CT scan, meaning they healed. Having lots of pain, but she is very thankful to be with us. God is so good! She has been hospitalized in Wichita and will be moved to a rehab facility. Will need to wear back brace for 6 weeks. Probably not able to do her Occupational Therapy job for a good while. Praises and prayers are welcome for all that goes along with this. Besides the physiological and mental aspects, please pray for provision. Craig has been unemployed since Nov and DeVona had been working PRN, so there is no medical insurance and now very limited income. Praise that workers comp and auto insurance will cover at least some of the expenses! God is good!
