I was in the best physical condition of my lifetime. I was prepared, tapering and excited to enter the SB100 bike ride on Oct. 21, 2017. My good friend Matthias was to join me, along with several others, and we had an ambitious time goal to beat of 6 hours flat (9500 ft of vertical).
On Oct 15, the day after a group training ride, I woke up in a strange place. Jessika explained to me what had happened, that I had been in a bike accident, hit by a car in Montecito, that my injuries were severe and I was flown to UCLA for surgery, and that I was expected to recover. But I did not have a present body experience of this. My last 12 weeks are basically the story of me learning the full extent of my injuries and coming to grips with these physically, emotionally and spiritually. In many ways the juicy bits of the story are behind me. But join me for the rest, because I have a huge mountain to climb, and will need companionship, encouragement and resources. And I hope to provide these same things in return, and probably make you cry, and definitely make you laugh, as we go.
