On November 30th Derek took a home COVID-19 test and came back as positive. Derek was hit pretty hard right away. He had stayed home from work the day before because he wasn't feeling very good. He always gets hit pretty hard with colds and sinus infections, so we were thinking that might've been all it was. He had a headache from the beginning and it kept getting worse and he spent most of his time sleeping. On Dec 2nd he was laying on the futon by me while I was working and I could tell how much pain he was in, so I called the nurse line and based on all of his symptoms she said I should bring him to the Emergency Room. I brought him in and waited there for a while since I wasn't sure if they would be admitting him or not. After about 2 hours they decided they would be admitting him, so I went home. They did a chest x-ray and saw the start of a lung infection, but no pneumonia. They also did a CT Scan of his head to check for meningitis, that came back clear. The next day they did a spinal tap to check for an infection, luckily that was also clear. He was sent home late that afternoon. We thought that we had seen the worst of it and that he would start getting better, but we were wrong.
I will try my best to keep this site updated as I learn more. I have also set up a Go Fund Me page to help with ongoing expenses and the potential cost of his rehab in case it is not covered by HRSA. gofund.me/8968c0f6
