Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

We(jJeremy and Nicole Miller with our 5 kids at home with us still) are visiting Washington from Alaska and brought the kids to seaside. Derek was standing on a driftwood log and a wave knocked him off and the wave rolled the log over his head. Darrel(16) was right there with his and picked carried him to boardwalk where the rest of us were waiting for them to walk up front he beach. Derek came to right away but was super dizzy and bleeding from right ear and nose. Beach patrol and EMS transported him by ambulance to Astoria hospital. initial cat scan showed skull fractures. he was talking and knew where he was. they intubated him for lifeflight where Nicole was able to ride with him in chopper to to OHSU and was admitted into PICU with acute traumatic brain injury. more scans and MRI showed no brain bleeds, a bruised brain, and a main skull fracture in back of head , fracture around right ear, and sinus area fractures. no surgery is needed. he is cleared by neuro to have c-collar off. hoping to be moved for observation and continued concussion care to an acute care room today out of PICU! yay! hisnleft eye isn't dilating real well and deviates when he focuses. he giggled and asked if his broken head is causing him to see 3 left arms, lol. he is cleared to eat and drink. he hasn't ate yet but sipped some OJ and fell back asleep, his pain and concussion keeps him very still and sleepy. in all of this it has been a very traumatic experience for jeremy, I and the kids. all the prayers and texts are needed to keep us upbeat. we just were able to lay our son Devin's headstone 3 days ago and it feels when we are just coming up for air and being able to process. we began drowning and need to reach out and be carried. Not one minute can we travel alone. please continue to pray. and in this instance it's so hard for me myself to pray THY will be done instead of MY will.
