Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting. In May of last year, 2018, Dennis experienced a recurrence of a benign brain tumor, he originally had in March of 2006. At that time, he underwent surgery to remove the tumor, however experienced multiple complications, necessitating a total of 7 surgeries that year. After a stay in a rehab hospital, and extended out-patient therapy, he eventually returned to work part time in November of that year, and to full-time work in January of 2007. He remained symptom free until May of last year, when vision changes prompted a CT scan, revealing a recurrence. He underwent non-invasive, stereotactic radio- surgery, 7/12/18, at Shands Hospital, UF, which we were led to believe would take care of the tumor, and we were so grateful not to have to go through surgery again. The hopeful destruction of the tumor would take place over 12-18 months, so he was followed every 4 months with an MRI to monitor this. In September of 2018, we switched his care to a wonderful neurosurgery team at UAB. Unfortunately in December, 2018, his balance worsened to the point he was no longer able to walk without assistance. It became necessary this spring for him to retire from civil service on long term disability. Last week, an MRI confirmed that the targeted radiation treatment last summer was not successful. And so, surgery to remove the tumor is scheduled for Monday, 8/26/19. We are totally at peace with events as they are unfolding thanks to our firm faith in our loving and sovreign God. We would so appreciate your continued prayers for Dennis, our family and all those who will care for him throughout this process.
