The American Cancer Society indicates that 1 in 8 women will get breast cancer. That one is supposed to be someone else, not me.....right? Unfortunately, I'm the one. I have breast cancer and this is the place that I'll share my journey with my family and friends. Let me start by sharing that I have not been one to self exam, nor have I regularly had mammograms, and my current healthcare provider (for the past year and two months & 2 well woman checks) does not do breast exams at well women checkups. So, my advice to you, do a breast self exam each month, find a doctor who does breast exams as part of your annual well women check and get your regular mammogram. I'm not sure how those things would have changed my journey and there's no looking back now, but if I can save one woman from the ugly breast cancer diagnosis by my advice, I will be a happy woman! This will be my diary of sorts for this breast cancer journey. If it's too long, or TMI, I totally understand, no offense taken if you don't want to keep following my journey. But this is a way to share my story without having to repeat the story over and over again! Because sometimes it's painful to tell over and over. Welcome to our CaringBridge website.
