Delenia Johnson

Delenia Ana Johnson peacefully departed this life on January 16, 2021. The oldest of three children, Delenia was born on December 17, 1946 in Panama, Republic of Panama to Lionel F. Gilkes (deceased) and Ana Green Davis (deceased).

Delenia received her elementary and high school education in Panama.  At the age of 15, she accepted Jesus as her savior and was a member of the Rio Abajo Methodist Church in Panama. She sang in the choir and was a Sunday School Teacher.  She was also a member of El Coro de las Americas (a choral group) where she met Amos Johnson and in 1967, they were united in marriage and God blessed this union with three daughters.  As a military family in the Army, they were stationed in Ft. Hood, Texas, Germany, Ft. Benning, Georgia and Ft. Knox, Kentucky.

In 1982, Delenia and her three daughters moved to Washington, D.C.  where she began her professional career as a secretary with D.C. Department of Parks and Recreation. She was later promoted to Staff Assistant in the Capital Projects Office and retired on December 31, 2011 after 30 years of dedicated service.

In 1983, Delenia became a member of Takoma Park Baptist Church in Washington, D.C. where she remained active until the time of her death.  She served as Sunday School Secretary and Women's Ministry Secretary.  She was a member of the Sanctuary Choir and one of the Galilean Adult Sunday School Class teachers.  She served on various committees and was ordained a Deacon in January 2001.

Delenia is lovingly remembered by her three daughters: Jennifer Johnson Green (Damon) (FL); Jessica Johnson (DC); Janice Johnson Pouch (Kenneth) (DC); five granddaughters: Maya Green (GA), Jada Green and Reina Green (FL); Anamarie Pouch and Olivia Pouch (DC) One sister: Miriam Osavio; Two brothers: Samuel Gilkes (Doris) Panama; Michael Ansarra (Linda) (CT); Nieces, Nephews, Grand-nieces and Grand-nephews and a host of cousins and friends.
