Hi, this is Victoria, and I’m starting this Caring Bridge site for my mom to keep family and friends updated all in one place. We appreciate your prayers and support and words of hope and encouragement.  My mom is feeling very positive and peaceful with all that’s ahead.  Three weeks ago on 1/20/18, this journey began in the ER at Kaiser, San Leandro.  A CT scan revealed a mass in her left kidney, as well as a small mass in each of her lower lungs.  After a PET scan and meeting with both her oncologist from ten years ago, and the urologist, it was decided that the cause of the cancer would be best determined by a needle biopsy. But that procedure was rejected in radiology as being too high risk for that department so she was referred to the surgery department.  She met with the surgeon on 2/5/18 and he explained that he would perform a thoracoscopy which is a wedge resection to remove the mass on her lower left lung. It will be sent to pathology to determine if this is a new kidney cancer that has spread or a recurrence of the breast cancer that has metastasized from ten years ago. This surgery is scheduled  for 2/16/18 and we’ve been told the pathology might take 3-5 days to determine which type of cancer it is.  From there a treatment plan will be set in place.  I’ll keep you posted when I know more.
