Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

On Thursday September 27th, Mom had gastric bypass surgery. The amount of recovery typically only takes 2 days and patients are able to go home. The plan was for her to be able to come home Sunday but pain, nausea and the post op CT scan showed what the surgeon thought was a blockage on the bottom surgical site. He tried to suction the area for a day which helped initially but she became more symptomatic Sunday. Another CT scan was ordered and the “blockage” was still present. The surgeon’s plan was to repair this laparoscopically.

Sunday night she went into surgery around 6pm to repair the lower blockage. Unfortunately, as he started the surgery he discovered a large amount of fluid  infecting her abdominal cavity.  He found the second (top) surgical site was the cause of the leak and also needed to be repaired. Overall this surgery was much more extensive and complicated than her doctor initially thought, and expressed his concern to us.

He made us aware that he predicts a long, uncomfortable and trying recovery time. Anywhere from 2-6 weeks.

Her body has been fighting very hard against this infection and to heal right now. She’s not up for any visitors at this time but feel free to send cards to her home if you’d like ❤️

Mom has an incredible team of doctors and nurses, and we have all the faith in the world that she is in good hands. Due to the severity of the surgery, Mom is still recovering in the icu. She looked and sounded better than yesterday, today! She even got the okay to have ice chips. :)

We ask for your prayers during this time. This is going to be a long road for Mom. She needs lots of positivity.

We are going to keep the updates flowing through this site. I just want to remind everyone that I am handling her work accounts so if you have reached out and haven't received a response, please don't take it personally. I’m just writing every non emergency in a notebook for her when she’s able. We all know she loves her job and is eager to get back at it. We appreciate your continued love, prayers and support.

***Please note that I am unable to remove the "ways to help" donation tab. Donations do not go to Deb. They help support CaringBridge so if you donate, please know that it goes to a good cause, but that it's for the site specifically. The wording is a bit misleading.
