Debra Taylor

In April 2018 Debra Taylor was diagnosed with Epithelioid Hemangioendothelioma (EHE). This is a very rare form of cancer that affects the epithelial cells, which line the inside of blood vessels. Most commonly EHE affects the soft tissues, liver, lungs and bones. Currently there's no treatment protocol for doctors to follow due to the rarity of the disease. MD Anderson, Houston currently treats about 20 patients annually with EHE, and is one of the largest cancer treatment hospitals in the United States. Due to the rarity of the disease, treatment & care needs to be done at MD Anderson, and coordinated with her local oncologist in Indianapolis.

Due to exhausting FMLA, vacation time, and PTO Debra was terminated from her employment.  Medical complications have caused Debra to be unable to work since October 2018. Debra needs to keep her Cobra insurance from her previous employer because Indiana Health insurance is not accepted out of state.  Along with the social workers from the cancer center, Debra has spent several months applying, calling, requesting, and researching other avenues for financial assistance for medical and travel expenses.  Unfortunately there is minimal assistance for patients with rare cancers.

Several organizations designate monies towards particular types of cancer. Again, with the rarity of this cancer, and it only affecting 1 in 1 million, help is not as readily available. This fundraiser is to help Debra be able to keep her Cobra Insurance, as well as, assist with uncovered medical and travel expenses.

Debras doctors have informed her and the family this will be a long process.  We are all hopeful a treatment plan will be available in the not too distant future. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your thoughts, prayers, and support helping Debra in this difficult time.
