Hi All, I want to share some news. In January I was diagnosed with an ameloblastoma in my mandible. For those of you who are not maxillofacial surgeons, this is a benign tumor in my lower jaw. Benign being one of the best words in the English language; tumor - not so much. On April 20, my doctors will remove most of my lower jaw and replace it with a titanium plate and part of my fibula. The surgery is long (10 hours), and I'll be in the hospital for about 2 weeks. Healing is going to take a while. That's the bad news. The GOOD news is that this is NOT cancer, I'm NOT going to die, and they CAN fix it. I am very blessed to have a fantastic surgical team and incredible support from my family and friends.
Once I'm through the surgery, Ron (https://www.facebook.com/ron.seligman13
) will set up a Caring Bridge account where he'll post updates. He'll link that account to this one.
Oh, and the other good news - I should come out of this skinny and with a whole new set of beautiful teeth! 🤓
