Dawn's cancer story began about 5 years ago, in September 2011.  After discovering she had ovarian cancer, Dawn underwent surgery and six cycles of chemotherapy.  This was followed by a clean scan and 3 1/2 years of remission, during which Dawn was able to live a relatively normal life doing all the things she loved.  This included time with her first three grandchildren, the birth of two additional grandchildren, caring for her Mom, and several trips with family and friends.
The cancer recurred in September 2015, and Dawn repeated the six chemo cycles ending with another clean scan in March 2016.  This time the remission lasted only five months, so Dawn entered a clinical drug trial at Duke Cancer Center in September 2016.  The 9-week scan showed that the trial drug was not effective, so she left the trial in early November.  There is one more line of treatment available, but prior to starting Doxil Dawn developed severe swelling in the legs and abdomen.  As of November 30, Dawn is at Duke Hospital working on these complications.
