Many of you have heard about by brother-in law, David Weikel, and his recent diagnosis with cancer.  We have created this page to help manage information and share this journey with all of you.  We feel your love and prayers and we are blessed to have you in our lives.  Below is David’s story so far:

During the month of August, David was sick with what appeared to be digestive issues and began losing weight.  He was diagnosed twice with acid reflux.  On August 27, after a weekend of nausea, dizziness and leg cramps, Beth took him to the ER at Emory hospital.  A CT scan revealed a mass in the pancreas and David was admitted.  A follow up MRI and biopsy was performed on August 29.

On September 4, David and Beth, along with their children Sarah, Becca, Elizabeth, Maggie and Bill, received the devastating news that David had been diagnosed with unresectable locally advanced adenocarcinoma of the pancreas, a.k.a. Pancreatic Cancer Stage 3.  On September 7, they met with Dr. Akce at Emory.  The cancer at this point is unresectable (unable to be removed) because it is wrapped around the blood vessels.  Dr. Akce has formulated a treatment plan that involves a 16-week course of chemotherapy beginning on September 14.

David will receive his chemo port on Thursday, September 13.  This chemotherapy will be a triple drug combination.  Two of them will be infused in the chemo lab at Emory.  The third will be infused over a 48-hour period via a pump that the ever-fashionable Mr. Weikel will be wearing in a fanny pack!  He will return to Emory on Sunday to have the pump removed.  At the 8-week mark, another set of scans will be performed to determine if this regimen is working.

Currently we have a meal train and a Facebook page set up for the two of them.  Both, along with this page will be updated as we go.

David loves cards and notes so please send them by the bushel!!!  That address is:

Bald jokes might be okay, but David is quite upset about losing his moustache!

We know that God is good and faithful.  We believe steadfastly in the power of prayer.  Let’s storm Heaven for these two, special people and their children.

David is relying on 1 Peter 5:7 – Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.

Beth leans on her favorite Proverbs 31:25 – She is clothed in strength and dignity.
