David Thomas Cook

We created this site to keep you up to date with David Thomas’s status as he begins a very difficult phase of his fight with cancer. Many of you know him as David Cook, but to his siblings, cousins, childhood friends, and aunts and uncles he is known as “Tom”. He chose to use his first name through his adult life and since many of you know him as “David” that is the name I will use throughout these postings and this introduction. But childhood friends, cousins, aunts and uncles will know I am talking about “Tom”.

Earlier this year David thought he had a bad cold and went to the doctor to have a persistent sore throat looked at. Several visits to various doctors and a biopsy later he had their official diagnosis which was throat and tonsil cancer.

The cancer was considered stage 4 by some doctors and one doctor had given him about 8-10 months to live without treatment. BUT with the advanced radiation and chemo technology they have now-a-days there is an extremely high survival rate for this type of cancer. With of course, all the horrible and nasty side effects that comes with the treatment. Moving forward with traditional medical treatment was not an easy decision for David. He strongly believes in the more natural homeopathic remedies, but has decided that the radiation and chemo is the path he needs to take.

There is a great team of doctors and nurses working with David. He has already begun these treatments and has completed 5 of the 35 planned radiation treatments and 1 of the 7 planned chemo treatments.

David is staying with his brother Mike and sister-in-law Peggy in the Savannah /Hilton Head area, and his treatments are taking place there. David has a very rigorous treatment schedule to follow and we are getting it done. That’s not to say there haven’t been a few bumps in the road. But we are getting those worked out.

Many of you know David well. You have been on the receiving side of his gentle heart that wanted you to know and experience our Heavenly Fathers Love and know that He has a plan and purpose for your life. For years, David has selflessly taught weekly Bible studies, preached at churches, and even done one on one mentoring. He’s given away numerous vehicles, bought groceries, and payed electric bills and rent for those who found themselves running short. He has donated hours and hours of electrical and handyman work for those in need. Always giving generously, selflessly, and asking nothing in return.

The past few months have been hard, heavy, and overwhelming to say the least. The battle against fear, regret, denial, and worry has been real. The battle against death and believing for life has just begun. Please check David’s Caring Bridge site on a regular basis for our latest postings and updates. Welcome to our Caring Bridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.
