On October 19th, 2016, David was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer. After various scans, we learned that the cancer has spread to the liver and bones directly surrounding the tumor in his lung. However, his brain is still cancer free. He had his first chemotherapy and radiation treatments on October 23rd. Based off of scans taken three weeks later, the chemotherapy was largely ineffective in fighting against the cancer. He is now beginning immunotherapy treatment (you may have recently seen the TV ads for Opdivo) in the week after Thanksgiving. Due to the aggressive nature of the tumor and specific cancer type, the Opdivo should have a increased chance of effectiveness, and we are hopeful that his cancer responds to the treatment for a long time! David has also been admitted to the hospital on occasion to reduce and monitor high calcium levels, and will be in the hospital now for the next few days (starting 11/29). He has been in high spirits, and everyone who knows him shouldn't be surprised to hear he's still fighting! We all greatly appreciate the kind thoughts and support we've received thus far. We will be updating this site further in the future to let you all know how he is feeling and what his current treatment status is. Thank you all!
