On December 15th, 2017, Dave suffered a stroke in the early morning at his home. He was first transported by EMS to St. Joseph's in West Bend and then transported to Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee to receive the best available care.
Once at Froedtert, Dave was assessed by the Neurological Surgery and Neurological teams and rushed into surgery.
In surgery a piece of Dave's skull was removed, the bleeding was stopped and the blood that had accumulated and was causing pressure on his brain was evacuated.
Though the surgery was successful Dave's condition remained critical. The piece of his skull was left off to ensure there was no further buildup of pressure as well as fast access should he begin to bleed again.
In the SICU the Neurological team then took over and has since been monitoring Dave's status. With rounds daily and constant care from a nurse Dave's status is closely watched.
Though he is presently stable Dave's condition is still critical. He is under constant thread of another bleed, fever, other illness, diabetic issues and respiratory stress. He is on a ventilator and has a feeding tube that ensure he breaths and gets the nutrition he will need to rebuild his strength.
