Most of you receiving the link/invite to this page already have some information on Dave's medical status. We are all grateful for your support and outreach. Nick, Cassidy, and Dave's brother, Dan, all know how many people love this guy and what joy he brings to so many with his humor and engaging presence, contrarian style and of course his endless stream of jokes.
On Sunday, February 20th, Dave suffered the rupture of an aneurysm in his brain. We were at home together and able to get help very quickly. He is currently at St. Anthony's Central in the Neurovascular ICU. Who would have known, we have the best possible specialized treatment one mile from our home. Dave is in good hands and this is confirmed by his good friends, Dr. Bies, and Dr. Spear who he has known for 40+ years.
Needless to say, this is hard news to absorb. It is surreal. Every day there is an enormous amount of information shared and constant attentive monitoring. Nick, Cassidy, Dan Falls, and I have been covering shifts at Dave's bedside. Doctors say he will be here for a minimum of 21 days. There are many good signs so far and many unknowns.
The encouraging news is that Dave's vitals have been kept stable and he is responsive to basic neurological prompts to give thumbs up or wiggle his toes. He is intubated and necessarily well sedated. On Sunday night, they inserted a drain into his head to relieve pressure/fluids. This evening, 2/25/22, they shared they may be able to remove that drain tomorrow. Dave also recognizes our voices and has opened his eyes and even nodded yes or no at times. We have hope. He is a fighter. He is a champ!
This coming week we expect to be challenging because between days 6 and 14, he is at highest risk for something called vasospasms. He is being closely monitored for this activity and will be treated as necessary to prevent those from taking place or causing additional problems.
We wanted to start this page so that we can keep Dave's and our friends and families notified of his progress. We invite people to connect with us here, ask questions, share how you know Dave and whatever else. We are all so grateful to have all of you and we will reach out for what we need.
