The beginning of a journey  (https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/davidedwards6/journal/view/id/5a8cbcc8d398d056671a1ffc)Journal entry by Kaye Edwards — a minute ago

David finally (really) retired from Church of the Covenant in Lynchburg, VA. In February of 2016 we moved to rural Kentucky to be closer to family in Kentucky and in Indiana, especially our precious granddaughter, Arabella and her parents. It would be an understatement to say that David has had a difficult time since we made this move. As the beautiful spring began to bloom he began to have sinus infections and bouts of bronchitis, one after another. We discovered that he had developed severe allergies and he started weekly allergy shots. but the sinus infections and bronchitis continued. In January he had very successful sinus surgery and could finally breathe. However, soon after the surgery he began to have difficulty swallowing. In early February he had a scope that showed a mass at the base of his esophagus. Testing proved it to be cancer.  A follow-up PET scan showed that the cancer had spread to his liver and attached to one back rib bone.

Chemo treatments begin on Monday, February 26, 2018.  It is projected that the treatment will continue for about 4 months with one week of three treatments and then a week off to look at lab results and see how he is doing. He is receiving care from the Bardstown Cancer Center, which is only about 12 miles away from where we live. David has great confidence in the doctors and staff of this center and the care he is receiving there.

We so appreciate your prayers and all the positive/healing energy that you can send our way. David has very little energy and talking is difficult. Please feel free to contact us but know that David will probably not be able to respond personally to your concerns.

Love to you, our friends and family.
