On January 15th Dave underwent Deep Brain Stimulation surgery to help combat the symptoms of Parkinson's.   Although the initial surgery went well, unfortunately in the process he contracted bacterial meningitis.  It is a very serious strain of bacteria.  Dave is currently  at Hoag Hospital in the ICU undergoing aggressive treatment.  He is off sedation and is breathing on his own but he is still intubated as the ventilator is helping fill his lungs more fully to keep them clear.  The medical team working with him has stated that this is a very complex case and one of the most serious they have seen.  Dave underwent a second surgery to remove the initial device from his brain.  At this point Dave is showing minimal response to stimulation.  We are praying that his brain is able to heal as the meningitis clears from his body however, we have been told by the medical team that his prognosis is unknown.  They will continue to use imaging to look at his brain and determine it's overall health.  There are many details we can not include in this update but we just ask for your prayers and love.   As new information becomes available we will share it here.  The medical staff has asked that Dave have minimal visitors, primarily family.
