In December of 2011 Dave was diagnosed with Kidney disease and renal failure and has been undergoing various forms of dialysis for the past 5 years. 
This past year Dave has had many health challenges. His dialysis treatments were done through different ports. The lastest, a catheter, was put in sometime in early spring. About a two weeks later the catheter was dislodged during his sleep so they had to put a new one in. In early June Dave was getting weaker and went to the ER where he was diagnosed with Pneumonia as well as minor leaking of the aortic heart valve. The doctors also found that second catheter caused a Staph infection. They have been treating the infection with antibiotics and watching to make sure no further damage was done to the heart. This past Wednesday, August 17th Dave was admitted again with a high fever. He kept getting weaker so docs compared his previous tests to new ultrasounds and found that there was now moderate leaking of the heart. After  going for a walk Daves stats plummeted leading the docs to determine that his condition had become an emergency and heart surgery was imminent. 


 Last night 8/22/16 Dave underwent open heart surgery. Both his aortic and mitral valves needed to be replaced as well as a curtain that separates the two valves. The heart suffered quite a bit of damage.
 
Today 8/23/16 Dave  has been kept sedated and the meds and machines are keeping him stable.  However, his ankle on his right side isn't getting any blood flow. He may need to go in for another surgery here shortly. Will try and update as best I can while trying to keep Martie calm, fed and rested.
