Darlene has not felt like herself for around two years, with weakening energy. She had visited several doctors in Rapid searching for answers. In October a blood test alerted her Primary Care Doctor that her kidneys were failing, so she was admitted into Rapid City Regional. She had a double kidney infection, which was treated and she was released. Her doctor felt that they had not found the source of the sudden kidney failure and she recommended mom go to Sanford in Sioux Falls, where they found a large tumor blocking her ureters. Upon further testing, Darlene was diagnosed with very advanced bladder cancer late October at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls.
She is under Hospice care, surrounded by family at home in Piedmont.
