Welcome to our CaringBridge website for Daren. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement; we have been overwhelmed with kindness.
After visiting a doctor for stomach pains, Daren had a colonoscopy and endoscopy on June 7th, 2018. Shortly after waking up from those procedures, the doctor informed us that Daren had colorectal cancer. Our world changed instantly.
That day and the following week were full of doctor appointments, CT scans, tests, and decisions. An excellent medical team has been assembled for Daren and we are very fortunate to have them. Dr. Patel, Dr. Sumey, and Dr. Angelos have been wonderful. We could not have gotten this far without our nurse navigator, Gwen. She has been a true blessing, coming to all appointments, answering all of our questions, and making sure both Daren and Steph are doing ok.
Surgery is scheduled for Friday, June 29th at 11am. . CT scans show that the cancer had not spread to any other organs, but we won’t know if it is in any lymph nodes until after the surgery. An ongoing treatment plan will be determined after the surgery. Daren will likely be off work for 3-6 weeks if all goes as planned.
Daren is married to Stephanie and they have two daughters, Paige (age 15) and Chloe (age 11). They live in Sioux Falls.
Daren, Stephanie, Paige, and Chloe have all received tremendous support from our entire family, friends, coworkers, and church family. Daren's sister Dori has been a great help and support for Daren and Stephanie and will be posting regular updates as he recovers. Pastor Woody (and our entire Grace Lutheran family) has been very caring and always reassures us that God is with us on this journey. Thank you again for all the prayers.
We invite you to follow this page to receive updates on Daren's journey.
