Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

I’m updating this as so much has happened since Mom came to the hospital, I’m going to streamline it a bit to catch everyone up to speed:
On the 1st of February, Mom slipped and fell while on vacation. She wasn’t Able to get back up and had been getting weaker while in AZ. She was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Cottonwood, AZ, then transferred to the Banner University Hospital in downtown Phoenix for further treatment.

She was diagnosed with Infectious Endocarditis which affected the mitral valve in her heart and it’s now leaking backwards into her lungs. She is currently intubated and on life support via a continuous dialysis machine (CRRT). She is also receiving occasional blood transfusions.

Her artificial right knee was removed on the 8th of February as it had also become infected. She has a temporary articulating cement and antibiotic spacer placed for now. She will eventually need a new knee.

She will need a few more weeks on IV antibiotics until she’s healthy enough to have a mitral valve clip or repair completed. Once her heart is healthy enough she will need a liver and kidney transplant. Then we can get to the knee.

Having said all that, Mom is currently in between jobs as she was leaving one position, for a change to a new position that was supposed to start early February, but due to this stay, she couldn’t start the job.

She is now covered by Cobra insurance, which is wildly expensive - nearly $1000/month! This is no one else’s responsibility! But if you have been helped by my Mom in the past, if she has babysat for you, cleaned your house, talked to your parents for you, given you advice, fought for you in a time of need - please understand this is her time of need.

Also, money is not necessary, if you can help out at her house when we get back, make a call to improve her spirits, or post something funny on her Facebook that would be amazing! Thank you all in advance! The Okey bunch appreciates you!!!
