Dan was first diagnosed with Cardiomyopathapy and Ventricular Tachycardia in March of 2007. These heart conditions were able to be controlled by various medications several years. In December 2012, a clot was found in Dan's heart and his cardiologist recommended that a pacemaker/defibrillator be implanted. Once again, the heart conditions stabilized until spring of 2018. At this time, Dan was experiencing bloating, shortness of breath, weakness, and fluid retention--all symptoms of heart failure. After multiple hospitalizations through the spring and summer, his cardiologist referred him to the Heart Failure/Transplant Team at Carolinas Medical Center (CMC) for further evaluation.
