On October 9th, 2018 we learned the devastating news that Dan has a very deadly and aggressive form of blood cancer called MDS. We were shocked as his blood work only a few months ago was completely normal.
The cancer progressed rapidly, and the treatment options were minimal. With chemo, there was a 1 in 5 chance of success requiring 6-8 weeks in the hospital. We are at peace that Dan is ready to go to his heavenly home and declined the treatment.
As his bone marrow could produce almost no normal blood cells the initial prognosis was perhaps 1-2 months. After two weeks of transfusions and supportive care, his very caring and capable team of doctors indicated on October 23, just a short two weeks later we are measuring days and hours.
His family is by his side and on Wednesday he was able to see his son Mark, daughter Amy, and Ali journeyed from Germany and flew with her fiance Joe to Dallas. Dan was alert and joyful to be surrounded with love.
Admitted to hospice in patient on the 24th, and we anticipate God will be welcoming him into his everlasting love. While we are filled with sorrow beyond words, the essence of Big Dan--his incredible spirit will soon be free of pain.
Our faith is deep, and your support, love & caring sustain us all. The McCoy Family Debbie, Mark & Jodie, Andy & Dana, Robert Amy & Tony & Oscar Ali & joe
