Welcome to Dan's Cancer Journey. We've created it to keep friends and family updated. We appreciate your support, words of hope
and encouragement during this time when it matters most.

On Wednesday Feb. 24th at 5:00am, Dan went to the hospital.  After several tests he was told that his spleen is 2 times the size it should be and that his blood platelets were low. Thursday morning he had a bone marrow sample taken.  On Monday February 29th, his preliminary results showed that he had Hairy Cell Leukemia, although we were still waiting for several other tests to confirm the diagnosis.  We moved forward assuming that hairy cell leukemia would be the diagnosis.  He was given a medication to help prepare his kidneys for chemo treatments.  In addition, a steroid was started on Tuesday to help alleviate the pain and to shrink his spleen.   On Wednesday March 2nd, all tests came back and his diagnosis was changed to Mantle Cell Lymphoma.  This is a slow developing cancer that is treatable but difficult to cure. It requires a much more aggressive treatment plan.  A PET scan will be given on Monday; this will help in showing all areas of concern and how to initiate a focused treatment plan.

My family and I are taking it one day at a time. We are relieved to finally have a diagnosis.  It has been a difficult time for all of us; Dan is my "Martha Stewart" and always willing to help others, not ever asking for help himself.  The outpouring of prayers and well wishes has been amazing, thank you! If you can relieve some of the financial pressure brought on by out of pocket medical expenses, so that Dan can focus on his recovery and treatment plan would be very helpful. Please give what you can and continue to hold him up in your thoughts and prayers. My amazing husband Dan is loved by so many people! Please feel free to share this with others who know him and want to help. Thank you!

Our family is taking it one day at a time. We are relieved to finally have a diagnosis.  It has been a difficult time for all of us, as most of you know; Dan is my "Martha Stewart" and always willing to help others, not ever asking for help himself.  The outpouring of prayers and well wishes has been amazing, thank you!  My husband is loved by so many people!  If you can help relieve some of the financial pressure brought on by out of pocket medical expenses, lodging & traveling back & forth to Anschutz and the decrease in income would greatly be appreciated. Please continue to hold him up in your thoughts and prayers.
