This site is to help keep all our friends and family up to date on Daniel's condition.  In January 2016, Daniel was diagnosed with Eosinophilic Gastroenteritis, a very rare and very serious condition that affects his entire digestive tract.  In August 2016 the diagnosis of Eosinophilic Colitis was added.  Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Disorders are autoimmune diseases that can cause inflammation in the digestive tract and cause it to completely stop working.  It is a condition that has periods of remission, and periods of "flare ups."  This is a very difficult condition to treat and can become very severe, even life threatening, if a flare up is not treated in time.  Unfortunately, Daniel has the rarest form of this disease and is also being tested for another related condition in the near future.  Daniel has had three major flare ups since January,  all requiring hospitalization, one of them requiring an airlift to Seattle Children's from Richland because he was not stable enough to be transported privately.  In Daniel's case, a flare up is usually caused by a virus or inflammation somewhere in his body meaning we have to do our best to keep him from getting sick...not an easy thing for an active 8 year old!
