Sunday, Oct 9th That afternoon Dan’s family and a few friends made an intervention, took him to Lancaster Hospital where he agreed to check in. He was agitated and his skin was very yellow due to jaundice. He was given fluids and medication through IV’s. The doctors started making arrangements for him to be transferred to a Madison hospital to treat the seriousness of his health. He was being diagnosed with Acute Liver Failure due to Alcohol Addiction. He has pneumonia and nutritional deficiency.
Monday, Oct. 10th Dan was transferred to St. Mary’s Hospital to the MICU. He had many IV bags with fluids and meds. He received blood transfusions to hopefully help his body to start making blood. At this point his liver is not functioning at all and his kidneys are still working.
Tuesday, Oct 11th Dan was showing signs of withdrawal symptoms and was receiving meds for them. He was able to talk and ask about things. Liver function remained the same.
Wednesday, Oct 12th No change. Still in MICU.
Thursday, Oct 13th He is retaining fluids as his body can’t process them.
Friday, Oct 14th Dan was struggling to breathe due to too many meds being administered and was placed on a ventilator and light sedation.
Sat., Sun & Mon, Oct. 15th -Oct 17th The ventilator was turned off and he is breathing on his own, but the tube was still down this throat. He is sleeping a lot, but can be roused and answer yes or no questions.
Tuesday, Oct 18th The tube is still is down his throat due to pneumonia. He was alert today as sedation meds were lowered. The OT and PT were in to work him over. He was responding and following directions to the best of his ability. He is still retaining fluids and is still yellow.
Wednesday, Oct. 19th They took him off sedation medicine.
Thursday, Oct 20th Wide awake and sitting up. Still has ventilator hooked up. They keep saying they plan to take it out, only his pneumonia and kidney function has worsened. A lot is going on with multiple organs. Today he has been able to communicate by pointing at a paper with the alphabet on it. Spelling out words and telling us what he wants.
Keep Dan in your thoughts and prayers during his time of recovery. If you would like to send a card, address it to his home at 1170 Skyview Dr, Lancaster, WI 53813. Annette will bring it to him.
