On February 21st, Dana found a lump in her left breast and a lump under her left armpit. She immediately called the clinic to get an appointment, and thankfully, they were able to get her in the next day to get checked at the clinic. The clinic determined that she had a 4x5cm mass in her breast, and a 1x2cm mass in her armpit. The next 2 weeks were a whirlwind. After a Mammogram, Ultrasound, Biopsy, On March 1st, Dana was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. Furthermore, on March 9th, after CT Scans, MRI’s and Bone Scan, Dana was diagnosed with Stage III Triple Negative Breast Cancer. Triple Negative is a cancer that is aggressive, but it responds very well to Chemotherapy. Dana is a patient at Piper Breast Center, and I can’t tell you enough how amazing they have been. Dana feels as if she is their only patient and knows that she is in great hands.
Dana has an aggressive treatment plan lined up, and it starts on March 23rd. She will start with 8 weeks of Chemotherapy (one session every other week of AC Chemo), then 12 weeks of Chemotherapy (one session weekly of Taxol and Carbo). After her chemo, they will regroup and discuss the surgery. It has been determined that she will need to have a Mastectomy (she can choose to have the one breast removed, or both). That will happen around 4 weeks after her last round of Chemo.
I (Dana’s sister Missy), will update the CaringBridge as often as possible. Due to the nature of her treatment, Dana will not be able to return to work for some time. Because of Covid, we will not be able to have your traditional Benefit as of right now, but I will provide my Venmo, PayPal, and Zelle below, for anyone that would like to donate towards her everyday bills, along with the medical bills that have yet to come.
