Welcome to our CaringBridge website.  We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place.  We appreciate your support and words of encouragement.  Thank you for visiting.

Dale was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) the fall of 2021.  MDS by definition is one of a group of cancers in which immature blood cells in the bone marrow do not mature, and as a result, do not develop into healthy blood cells. Early on, no symptoms typically are seen.  Later, symptoms may include feeling tired, shortness of breath, bleeding disorders, anemia or frequent infections.  Dale's treatment for the last year and a half has consisted of injections to help stimulate grown of the red and white blood cells.

The only known cure for MDS is a bone marrow transplant.  Not seeing adequate improvement with the injections, Dale began working with a Bone Marrow Transplant team at the University of Minnesota.  They've found a great donor, and Dale will be admitted to MHealth on Wednesday, March 1st to begin his BMT journey.

He will be hospitalized at the U of M for 37 days, then will need to be within 45 minutes of the hospital up to 100 days.  Visitation is limited to the same two people each day while he is in the hospital, then limited to few when first at home.

This isn't the way we envisioned Dale to start his much-earned retirement years, but we have faith and hope in better days to come.  Thank you for your continued support, positive thoughts and prayers.
