One of my dearest and closest friend since elementary underwent a very significant and grueling cancer radiation treatment over the last several weeks. This situation and season of her life has left her physically weak to say the least, emotionally discouraged, distraught and mentally insecure of her future as she still waits results if shrinkage occurred and or disappearance of her breast cancer.

This season of her life has also altered not only her financial circumstances but has also lead for her oldest son, on his own volition, to leave his full ride from a great university, living on campus during his freshman year, to return home to work two jobs and continue with his education online in order to help off set their financial cost of living due to Cynthia undergoing her cancer treatment.

Cynthia is unable to go back to work as of yet, due to her recovering from radiation which has not only created severe open wounds on her body but it has left her with  significant pain.  She is currently on state disability however only receives sixty percent of her pay which, many may believe is enough however,  with three dollars more than minimum wage and the rise of extreme inflation, Cynthia is unable to pay all of her bills with this misfortune that she is under going.

I will never forget how we met and how she would comfort me in kindergarten, as it was such a scary place for me because I did not know any English words, I didn’t know how to speak English.  I remember her grabbing my hand, holding it in class while learning I don’t know what and she’d translate the lesson to  me.  As we became older and my English got better, we’d compete with each other and when she’d win it never made me upset or jealous, it just made me want to do better and be a better version of the knowledge being instill on us through education. I have always admired her tenacity in putting herself out there and always wanting to win big and being first.  She became a mom before me and to see how an amazing mom she is and raising two boys from the start on her own, not how she wanted it, but her tenacity and inner strength I know is and will be carrying her through this season of her life.

I am hopeful she will see an incredible outcome out of this awful situation.  I know she will see the love, physically and emotionally supported, words of encouragement and our caring heart for her and her two boys to not feel alone during this season of her life.  I am hopeful she will feel blessed beyond measure by not only her close friends and family but her village that will not abandon her.

If you feel lead to donate please do not hesitate, Cynthia along with her sons would be the most thankful!

Most Grateful Friend,
Lea Johnson
