Cuffy Phair

We hope this Caring Bridge website helps to keep you up-to-date regarding Cuffy.  The family appreciates the concern of friends and family regarding Cuffy’s health status and wants to keep folks posted.  It can become difficult at times to keep everyone posted when things change and the immediate demands of caregiving require time and attention.

Here’s an overview:  Cuffy has probably been dealing with the current issues for much of this year, but things went undetected until the past few weeks.  He was admitted to the hospital in Augusta just after Thanksgiving.  He was ultimately diagnosed with pneumonia, but this was not properly diagnosed at the outset.  During his hospitalization in Augusta, significant heart issues were diagnosed, leading to a transfer to Maine Medical Center in Portland.  After several delays due to more pressing cases, a procedure was conducted to implant a combination Pacemaker/Defibrillator.  Cuffy returned home the week before Christmas, but was quite weak from several weeks of hospitalization and limited activity.

He was readmitted to the hospital in Augusta on December 23 and was discharged on December 24.  At that time, he was diagnosed with congestive heart failure.  He is scheduled to have a procedure on Friday, December 28 to drain fluid from his lung and a separate procedure on January 2 to replace a device used in conjunction with a previous surgery.

We will keep you posted as things progress.  Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.  We will post items on the Caring Bridge website as we identify things that might be helpful.  We hope you will find the Caring Bridge website useful and appreciate your love and support.
