Courtney Turpack is utilizing this phenomenal website to chronical her journey through one of the most deadly Cancer's known to humanity -- Metastatic Malignant Melanoma. She hopes by sharing her experience she will accomplish two things: turn what is a negative and devastating diagnosis into a positive outcome, AND to encourage everyone to be safe in the sun by taking simple measures to prevent skin cancer. All forms of skin cancer, regardless of whether it is Basal, Squamous Cell Carcinoma or Melanoma, each and every form can be prevented and detected at Stage 1. Throughout her journal entries, Courtney will attest to the importance of building relationships with providers and to always trust the instincts you feel. It is impossible to predict what may come from this; however if by sharing her experience helps simply one life for the better, it has served a positive purpose. Every night prior to sleep, she prays that no person or their family will ever have to endure this hardship and that if by chance they do, they have a friend and community to lean on. Together we can ALL make a difference in this fight towards Cancer free living.
If this is your first visit to her site, you may want to sort the entries from OLDEST to NEWEST. Despite Courtney being a private person and nervous about exposing such a personal endeavor, she was encouraged by her oncology team to write down her thoughts and feelings. She began sharing her story in March of 2015. Whether you're new to CaringBridge or not, please ensure to sign her GUESTBOOK so we have a way to get in touch with you privately. Furthermore, it is of utmost importance for her to have a way to thank each person who takes the time to read this. Courtney stresses she would like this to be a positive and inviting way to communicate during difficult times and at no point should it become burdensome to anyone. The most difficult thing she struggles with has nothing to do with being personally afflicted with Cancer, but the people in her life who are watching her go through it. In fact, very few individuals are exempt from knowing somebody with Cancer. The circumstance, relationship or degree may vary drastically from one person to the next; however the majority of us have had more than a handful of people we know and love be plagued by the notorious "C" word. No matter how often or how many people we may know, the grief and suffering doesn't get easier or better. For the caretaker, family member or friend of a Cancer patient, there is a tremendous amount of pain and depression. Hands down, this has been the most difficult aspect Courtney has been dealing with since her diagnosis. The very last thing she wants is for anyone to worry about her. She promises to beat this ugly beast not only for herself, but for all of you. Rest assured, try not to have even the slightest bit of sadness. Melanoma will not defeat her. Essentially, she believes this experience will make all of us stronger: mentally, physically and spiritually.
Please feel free to share this link with your family and friends. If you have any advice, suggestions, comments or prayers to write, she would be honored to receive them. As cliche as it may sound, NOTHING is too great that we cannot accomplish TOGETHER. It is only a matter of time before we find a cure for all forms of Cancer.
The worlds biggest THANK YOU goes out to the CaringBridge Team and Founders for providing such a wonderful site for those who are ill to find love and support. If you have a few dollars or more to spare, please think about donating. It is a fact that ATTITUDE, MIND, SPIRIT and SUPPORT is crucial to an individual's recovery, regardless of the illness or ailment. Without this resource, Courtney doesn't know where or how she would feel today. This non-profit should be recognized and honored to the fullest capacity. Countless people and their families have gained a wealth of happiness, joy and most of all, HOPE from CaringBridge. Courtney requested that in lieu of buying a get well card or anything else for her, donate one or two dollars to this website. For this and all your prayers, she wants everyone to know they will forever be in her HEART!
Once again, please sign the guestbook and never forget that above all else, people make the world go around. Life is precious and way too short to take family, friends and community for granted. Most of all, remember the power of prayer. The backsplash for her page was purposely set to FOOTPRINTS in the SAND which signifies her favorite story referencing God she remembers as a young girl. God is always beside you and in troublesome times... GOD is carrying you.
