Courtney is 30 years young, married to Chuck Kuchar and together they have grown into a beautiful family of 5 (3 children under the age of 5). On November 6th, 2017 Courtney was diagnosed with Invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC). IDC is a breast cancer that began growing in a milk duct and has invaded the tissue of the breast outside of the duct. Courtney discovered the lump in October but because breast cancer does not run in the family she felt the lump was due to her hormones. After a week had passed and the lump was still was present she decided that a call to her OB was necessary. Courtney was seen on October 26th and after a breast exam was told to visit the Breast Center. At the Breast Center they immediately did an ultra sound to find that this lump needed to be biopsied. It was a long week later and then an even longer 4 days later to find this lump was cancer. What has been shared by Courtney's surgeon is that her cancer is Stage 1A and that she has saved her life by acting so quickly. Courtney has calcium deposits in a majority of her left breast (what they consider stage 0 cancer that will turn if not removed). Courtney tests positive for HER2 proteins which basically means her cancer can grow and divide in an uncontrolled way if treatment doesn't start. Courtney has an aggressive Cancer in the early stages and her prognosis is good. Tentatively Courtney will need 6 months Chemo, a Double Mastectomy, Possible Radiation and then Hormone Therapy to finish it off. Please continue to follow Courtney's story here on Caring Bridge - Updates will be provided on this site to help elevate texting calling and emailing everyone details learned each day.
We all love Courtney and her family so please pray for them. Pray for relief of anxiety, for patience, for strength, for whatever you feel is necessary but pray because we all know God has a plan and we would like to stay strong knowing he is good and will get her through this!!
