Courtney Blachly

Family, friends, and loved ones of Courtney Blachly. Courtney had an MRI on Friday, February 3. We learned that she has a rare tumor inside of the base of her skull called a Trigeminal Schwannoma. It is about the size of a hard-boiled egg. It is not cancerous and appears to be slow-growing. However, it is very large, pushing her brain stem over to one side quite a bit, and partially encasing her internal carotid artery. It is also growing into other important areas of her skull and pushing on parts of her brain, which is causing headaches. She has been having numbness in her hands, vertigo, and pain/numbness in her face for several months. Courtney will be undergoing neurosurgery in the next several weeks to remove most of the tumor. The surgeons will not be able to remove all of it without risking permanent nerve damage, but the plan is for her to do radiation therapy after the surgery to kill off the remnants. We are lucky to have the best neurosurgeons at UCI Medical Center in Orange, California. We are using this site to keep everyone updated.
